Information For Parents

Information For Parents

We offer a range of services for children and young people with additional needs and mental health issues. These can take place at our centre,  your home or location of your choice.

As a broad spectrum we offer parents the following therapeutic services:

♦ Animal Assisted Activities (AAA)

♦ Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)

Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH)

Horticultural Therapy (HT)

Tailored to the age and related issues of the individuals, such as anxiety, anger or bereavement, these services encompass animal assisted activities and creative outdoor activities such as forest school games and bushcraft. Indoor activities may include art and crafts with a theme of nature and wildlife and other creative activities using a range of materials and stationery.

We offer an initial assessment to discuss your child’s needs and interests. This would include time with a range of our animals to assess those which will be therapeutically beneficial.

Special Needs Animal Assisted Activity Groups

If you would like encourage your child’s social interaction whilst benefitting from Animal Assisted Activities they can be part of a small activity group of children of a similar age and with similar needs. Many parents pool their personal budgets or direct payments with other parents of children with special needs to set up these groups. This can be a group of friends or we can set up a group for them with other similar children.

Sibling & Family Therapy

Many parents ask us if siblings are able to come to AAA sessions and we are happy to accommodate this. There can be huge benefits to the relationship between the siblings and children without special needs as they can often find themselves left out of the exciting activities that the child with special needs is able to access, so we feel it’s very important to include them. We also offer family therapy sessions, where the whole family can come and benefit, either as a therapeutic but fun day out or as a way to work through some issue within a family, such as sibling envy or a bereavement. These are highly personalised for each families’ needs so please talk to us if you think this might be beneficial to your family and we can discuss together what might be most appropriate for you. These may be one-off or regular sessions depending on the needs, and can also incorporate Nature Therapy including creative activities and Bushcraft. We also run sibling and family Activity Sessions such as Bushcraft with Dad’s, so please see our Groups Information or contact us to be sent information about our upcoming events.

Respite and Carers Sessions

If you’re a carer looking for some respite time we run weekly sessions for children and young people to come and spend some therapeutic time with our animals and enjoy outdoor activities at our centre.

Home School Children Drop-In

We run weekly drop-in AAA sessions for home schooled children, one for 5 to 7 year olds and one for 8 to 14 years. They get to meet and learn about our animals and take part in nature-based indoor and outdoor activities.

Animal Experiences

For children needing a quieter experience than our standard animal encounter parties we offer experiences where the child gets to handle and learn about some of our animals with a small group of friends or family members. Prices for animal experiences can be found on our main Animal Days Out website. We have Mini-Experiences for children aged 5 to 12 years old and Full Experiences for young people and adults from 13 years and above.
