About UsIn The Comuunity with Animal Days Out C.I.C.

Who We Are

In November 2011 Animal Days Out, formerly a trading name of Kylanja Ltd, legally became Animal Days Out C.I.C., an independent 'Not For Profit' Community Interest Company (C.I.C). On Friday 16th March 2012, we completed our operational re-organisation, which allows us to continue to provide a great public service and focus on local community projects as well.

What is a C.I.C.?

Quite recently a new type of company structure was established by the Government and called a 'Community Interest Company'. A Community Interest Company is a ‘not for profit’ organisation and adds an ethical dimension to a normal limited company by ensuring that all profits, assets and generated revenue are protected and are not abused by shareholders, directors or employee bonuses. This is called an ‘asset lock’ and prevents funds from being stripped away from the company.

The C.I.C. will continue to be run by Directors who will employ people, raise funds, and trade as before, except that there are restrictions to the amount of dividends and the amount of salary that can be awarded. This will ensure that all revenues are ploughed back into projects and initiatives for the good of the community and that the directors are working towards the same values, aims and goals for the right reasons and not just for profit. The board has invited an independent member to join as a non-executive, providing a regulatory and advisory element to the community company.

Further information about a C.I.C. can be obtained at: http://www.cicregulator.gov.uk/.

In the Beginning

Kylanja Ltd has been trading since 2004 and have over 35 years experience in company operations, operational consultancy, project management, IT and business systems within the City and West End of London.

Looking to diversify and move away from the rat race, the directors wanted to work on a project which we felt passionate about. In utilising our vast business skills, our aim was to make a positive impact and raise awareness for animal, wildlife and nature businesses and to assist in the general education of animal welfare and animal conservation issues.

October 2009 saw the beginning of Animal Days Out and we launched our original website. Since then we have been actively promoting animal, wildlife and nature attractions and events up and down the UK to the general public to both provide a public service for finding family days and events out and to raise the awareness of the many issues facing the animal kingdom today.  We believe that one thing leads to another. If we can help families and communities have a greater awareness of the Animal Kingdom, Wildlife and Nature, this will help promote a better understanding of conservation, animal welfare, nature and the biodiversity of our planet.

The business aims and values are still true today as they were at the beginning and our diversification to a Community Interest Company has only strengthened our determination to provide an improved service and access to the general public and community.
Going Forward

Animal Days Out C.I.C. will continue to provide a free website service to the general public listing the features and facilities of animal, wildlife and nature attractions, events, days out, cheap days out, vouchers and offers. We now have the potential to expand the detail we offer for the community with the help of volunteers to liaise with the attractions and update our site. We will continue to work with the many wildlife attraction businesses we have built up good relations with over the previous two years as we strongly believe this service encourages and will benefit families, individuals, schools, nurseries youth and community groups nationwide to find days out and events in the UK.
Direct events and activities co-ordinated and hosted by us will benefit families, individuals, schools, nurseries, youth, community and disability groups specifically in Kent and South East London to begin with. Going forward we will be looking for like-minded individuals to investigate the opportunities for this model in their own regions of the UK.
Encounters For All!

Our community interest also extends to providing animal encounters, educational sessions or organised themed activities to schools, nurseries and local community groups. We are also working in conjunction with some of our local London Boroughs offering services for educational and fun animal encounters to youth and community groups including disadvantaged and disabled adults and young people.  The C.I.C. is also the portal for our youth Activity Club programme and Activity Days, currently based locally, but again with the potential to expand into other regions and areas.
The community will also benefit from a unique affordable service providing opportunities for animal encounters, trips, holiday clubs, play schemes, residential weekends, activity, adventure days and events with animals, wildlife and nature. We are actively in the process of providing the foundation for offering Forest School concepts to be incorporated into the full range of outdoor learning opportunities enabling children and adults to connect with nature.
Giving Back

Our public facing and corporate Animal Encounters, Photography Days and Animal Experiences will be run through our original parent company Kylanja Ltd, trading as ADO Encounters. This will provide an additional mechanism to raise funds for subsidising our C.I.C. by pledging a percentage of any yearly profits as a donation. The exact amount will be dependent on the relative success of ADO Encounters, but we hope to pledge at least 10% of our net profits to Animal Days Out as a donation in the first year. With our business experience recognising the importance of corporate and social responsibility, we aim to take the lead with ADO Encounters to give something back to help drive community projects forward with additional funding and donations.

Our goals are to ensure that we can meet or exceed the following key aims:
Information Source For All

• To provide a free service for the community and families to search for animal, wildlife and nature attractions within the UK through our website.
• To provide a comprehensive listing of the features and facilities of each attraction
• To provide a central source of information for animal, wildlife and nature news through our social networking media sites
• To highlight special events and vouchers or hot offers available to the public
• To provide the general public with a regional guide for days out on a budget
• To raise the profile of animal, wildlife and nature attractions within the UK
Education and Access To All
• To assist and support education in the community by providing access and opportunities  to everyone through our animal encounters

• Provide and ensure that quality encounters and experiences are available to the community without prejudice
• Actively promote initiatives within schools and other educational centres providing access and visibility to young people to experience animals and wildlife as part of their key stage learning
• To provide a platform for the community to enjoy animals, wildlife and nature and share information and experiences
• To provide a fun, educational and vibrant  website that will interest the younger generation as well as adults and encourage them to be actively involved in wildlife, and associated conservation projects and topics
• To provide families, young people, disabled and disadvantaged members of the community an opportunity to experience animals, wildlife and nature at first hand and within their own venues and locations, without the need to travel.
